I'm Back.....................................!

So nursing school is quite literally the time suck from hell, with all the reading, and studying and doing of papers, it really has killed my hobby time.

So with the semester coming up shortly to the end I am starting to see little rays of sunshine through the end of the tunnel (let's hope it's not just a train!).

I decided that I could take a few nights to paint and man was it so nice to slide into the chair, dust off some brushes and get to painting.

I did up a GW model as I haven't worked on one in ages. I don't know what this thing is but I am sure one of you fine readers will be able to tell me in the comments. As it did not take terribly long to finish I also knocked out a Privateer Press model for the heck of it.

WMW is kinda my Christmas. It's the one convention I get to go to per year. It's small enough to not be completely overwhelming (under 1000 people) and big enough to have that con feel.

This year we have an amazing array of painters, modelers, airbrush artists and yours truly lined up to add a ton of value to the Hobby Lounge.

Not to mention the main gaming hall will be filled with games and at night the board games and booze will be a flowing. So if your in the St Louis area come on down and say high!

Nursing School blues.....

It's just not fun when there is no time to paint. So last night I made an executive decision and took an our out of my schedule to slap something onto a model. I wanted to actually finish something and found a single pose model that had a decent amount of detail that would be easy to do up real quick without spending hours on minutia.

And with that I give you Kovnik Joseph, fondly referred to as Uncle Joe.

A video podcast you say?

Hey folks, I was on the Painting with Menoth John Show this weekend.  If you are not familiar with the show, it's a 90 minute cast about painting, warmachine, drinking and shenanigans. The hosts are fantastic guys and it's a lot of fun. It streams on Twitch every Sunday night at 1930 EST.

This show is special as it is what's known as the "Brush head gallery", we spend the time going over submissions from the fan base. The hosts are always positive and encouraging.

So check it out, it's a fun time and you can see models from all degrees of skill, and you even get to see my face and hear my voice (sorry about the last two).

The Death Stalker.

So this guy is just about done. All she really needs is a bit of building up under the foot on the base. It was a fun model to work with, and I got to try a new thing using a ton of different blues to create the hues I was going for.

So I'd type more words here, but I just finished a 20 page paper for school..... Just look at the pictures and stop judging me!

Time.....

Well school is still just hammering me in the no-no square, but I managed to get a bit of painting in today. I got to work a bit more on the Strider Death Stalkers. I was able to start blending on the cape, worked on the feathers and got the blues started on the armor. That and the first layers of silver. 

Also the snow bases are done!

Slow and steady wins the race!

With nursing school, my kids all in school, and my wife in school as well (let's not forget about working while we are at it!). It's been a rare gem to find time to paint.

That being said, clients must be a priority as well. I started working on a clients Privateer Press, Legion model called the Strider Death Stalker. First thing to know that this model is really cool. It has just enough detail to make it interesting, without going overboard and making it a burden to paint and look at. The simplicity of the model also means that doing it right comes down to highlights shading and color choices (but don't they all really?).

To start the models were cleaned and pins were set into place. The nice thing about these little gems of white metal is the fact that it's only two pieces. So the whole body and the bow arm. I decided to paint them separately, as the bow would get in the way of about 1/3 of the body for painting (and of course it's the detail part!). Pins also were put into the feet to attach to the base later.

Ah yes the bases..... I wanted to create something special for these. As they are on 30mm bases there isn't all that much room to tell a story. The client asked for ice theme and I love me some crushed glass. I started out with Secret Weapons Miniature - Swamp bases as they suit my purpose fantastically. They have tree stumps and most importantly a deep lip which makes poring resin a non-messy breeze.

Please note the resin is still drying on the base so it looks like white soup at this point.
