Our first painting class!

Today I held my first painting class at Game Links in Fowlerville MI. We had 9 students show up and it was a great time.

We started by talking about brushes, brush care, sable vs synthetic and how they are used. After that we talked about cleaning brushes and how important brush soap is to the longevity of your brushes.

Priming was next up on our list, followed by base coating, highlights and shading.

We worked on undercoating gold and why its important. Then moved on to silvers.

Next up we tackled skin tones and how to make them more realistic.

Then the big one.... 2 brush blending.

All in all a great day

Our very first video tutorial!

Today is a good day! We shot our first YouTube tutorial. We wanted to start out with something easy and fun, so naturally we went with crushed glass for snow effects. You have seen me use this stuff on several models, and I have been asked repeatedly how to use it.

So please take a moment to watch the video and please leave some feedback so that we can get better!

Enjoy.

Gorshade the Cursed.

I love the feeling of accomplishment when I finish a model. Then the dread of "what's next?" sets in.....

As to this model, I had a great deal of fun. It was a nice change of pace to work in greens. I tried to show off a good range from very dark to almost yellow, and even if red is the primary contrast color for green I really like how it turned out.

Another really good lesson I learned on this one is how well purple works to shade gold. It's weird but striking at the same time.

Well I hope you like it. I'll be in the corner trying to decide what next to work on.

Cryx Update.

So work continues on Gorshade. I am really happy with just about everything on the model so far, except the sword. I think a bit more two brush blending is going to be needed to bring to all the way from a yellow down to a blue. That and the face needs a bit more work as it is blending in with the armor.
