Herne is in the house.

So last time I showed you Jonne from Herne and Jonne. I figured it would only be right to finish up the other model in this dynamic due. These sculpts are some of the oldest from PP and while they are showing their ages they are still fun and full of character. It was a real treat to work on something different and it has definitely been a pallet cleanser and a catalyst for me to want to get into painting other miniatures from different lines.

So without further adieu. I give you Herne.

Herne and Jonne


Well ok maybe just Jonne for now. Herne will come in the next week.

I wanted to take a break from just painting Khador models, and lets be real. I'm sure we are all a bit sick of seeing so much red from the north about now.

I was looking for a model that was fun to paint and really had some character. Herne and Jonne just stood out to me.

So I started working on Jonne as this one seemed like it would be a quick model to get together and finished. I was not trying to do anything really special. No super secret airbrush tech was used. Just good old fashioned paint brush and paint went into this one. Also I did it fast. I think I put about 3 hours into the model total so far.

I really like how the red on the shirt and the light green work well together. Not in love with the shoulder armor so we'll see if that stays or if I go a bit darker.

So here is what I have. I still need to go back and do the highlights but right now the model is sitting in the spray boots with the gloss varnish drying.

What can I say? This model was an absolute blast to paint up. The reds came out well, I really like how the golds are showing and the crushed glass on the base brings in a bit of realism.

So overall a fantastic model.

Next up is going to be something completely different. That's right folks I am putting away the red for a bit (I know right?!?!)

New Year, New Model to work on!

First off welcome to 2016. So far it's been a really good year here at FMP.

I figure it's a new year, we should probably start putting up some new work.

I have been painting up the Privateer Press, Khador Warcaster "Valdimer The Dark Champion." This model is pretty darn dynamic and I love that it is one that PP has put on an actual sculpted base. That and super sized shoulder pads are always in style.........right?

Not much new technique wise on this one. The large curved shoulder pads lend themselves to the red ink way of painting, I am happy with the highlights and shading so far. I really love how the golds are turning out.

At the point of the pictures I had just gotten a black oil wash laid on and now its drying. I also added a bit of Secret Weapons Miniatures - Crushed Glass to base to really make the snow pop.

Once the oil is dry it will be time to gloss varnish, finish up the highlights on things like hair, golds, and then on to the fringes of the cape. With that much of a flowing cape I'll have to try my hand at a bit of freehand painting. I purposfuly left the cape a dark gray. It should give me some great contrast if I use a bright red or even a grey/white for the freehand work.

Super quick update time.

Sadly my laptop crashed over the Christmas, It's the one that has all my pictures, notes etc of what I paint and model and review for the blog. Hopefully it will be back this week and I can get a few WIP posts up for you.

On the bright side 2016 is already shaping up to be Flight Medic Paintings best year ever. We have a few reviews and new kinds of projects already in the works and we are only a week into January.

So please stay tuned and know that some really cool things are just around the corner.

Oh and if you happen to work for Lenovo tell them to fix my computer right this time!!!

The end of the year blog post!

Warning, this post will not contain much in the way of hobby content. It's a reflection of what has been.

First I want to thank you for continuing to read my blog. I get a thrill out of logging onto my computer in the morning and seeing the number jump up on how many views I've had the day before. The blog has had an incredible year, I hit 10,800 views over the last 12 months. That is an amazing number in my book! So thank you from the bottom of my heart. It encouraging to see that people actually read what I type and look at my models. It drives me to do and be better each time.

Looking back over the models I've completed this year it's funny to think that I started in January working on my 9 year old son's Protectorate of Menoth models and finished with a display piece from Khador. It was a long and strange year but fulfilling.

What's next?

In the next year I plan to expand on the blog. I am going to reach out and work on different types of miniatures from different game companies. You will see more GW stuff, Some Infinity models. I am really itching to get a hold of a few Knight Models (the batman stuff) and hopefully some Super Dungeon Explorer.

I will also start doing more product reviews as things come in (but that's a surprise for later).

I am also spinning up an honest to goodness YouTube channel. I am going to focus on beginners. There are so many painters on YouTube and they are fantastic but so few of them actually teach the basics. I expect that to start around February, as it takes time to create, edit and upload.

And finally I ask for your feedback. Please leave comments, let me know what you like and what you don't. Tell me what you want to see in the future. This blog belongs to you, so please let me know how you want me to make it better.

At long last the Bombardier Bombshell is finished!

After the oil washes were I applied I went back over the model and highlighted the gold and silvers. Then it was onto finishing the base. I used Army Painter bushes things for the fauna to break up the space, and I used Secret Weapons Miniatures - Crushed Glass for the snow. It's pretty easy to do, just use some clear resin as glue (aka Realistic Water) then sprinkle the glass over it, drop a bit more resin on top... and you have snow. Now a much needed word of caution with this stuff. It's crushed glass, you do not want to breath this into your lungs, like not even a little bit. Use a mask, at least an N-95 if not a respirator, and gloves. Pour over a box or something that can catch it all. Seriously it's dangerous stuff if you don't take precautions.

Then it was time to assemble the model and get her on the base.

So here she is. I purposefully shot these photo's with no extra lighting on the light box to show the painted highlights without having the light wash them out.

Once the resin drys fully on the glass, I'll do pro pictures with her on a real background with real lighting.
